Sermon on 1 Peter 1:17-21 titled “Living In Reverent Fear.” Preached on June 19, 2022 at Friendswood Methodist as part of the ‘Oasis: Living Water for a Parched Land’ series.
Stuck in Saturday
In a way I feel like I’m stuck in Saturday right now! I am filled with uncertainty and worries. Anxiousness fills my heart. I am still in shock that this is our reality right now as we endure this pandemic.
Peace
Jesus offers a peace that is lasting and not dependent on what is going on around you. In the crazy busy moments of life, in the stressful times dealing with other people, in the times when it all seems overwhelming, Jesus can bring a peace filled with contentment, confidence, power and assurance. The world sees peace as an absence of conflict.
Family Rules
People will disappoint us in life. When they do, we can shake the dust from our feet and move on. Remember Jesus will always be there when its all falling apart. He is your constant and sure hope when everything and everyone else sucks!
In God’s Time
God has a plan! Many times we are not privy to the timing of the plan but we must trust that God will lead us forward at just the right time. In the college years, the future is looming large. What will you do upon graduation is the constant question.
Belt Check
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm
